The surface finish as a quality feature

New department for perfect edges and beautiful surfaces

At Vorndran Metallbau in Kleinwenkheim, Franconia, surface treatment is being given a higher priority as an important quality feature. The production department now has a department for grinding, deburring and edge rounding with four new LOEWER systems.

Vorndran, a globally active company in Lower Franconia with a wide range of work areas such as steel and metal construction, window and façade construction, plant and mechanical engineering, catwalk construction and industrial assembly, emphasises absolute quality. This is also characterised by existing qualification certificates in many service areas.

Vorndran has made a name for itself in the industry with numerous special steel constructions. Examples include the installation of 5.5 tonne staircase elements, including the installation of circular railings and LED lighting, in a design building at the Julius Kühn Institute in Dossenheim, the impressive façade elements with inserted block windows, fixed glazing and 4-sided external and internal sheet metal reveal cladding at the TUM Centre in Garching and many other demanding projects.

In order to meet the quality requirements of the market even further, the production department has now invested in a surface finishing department with four LOEWER machines. Finish sanding is generated with a sanding machine. In two deburring and rounding lines, separated into steel production, stainless steel and aluminium processing, the variety and quantity of parts to be processed can be deburred and rounded quickly and reliably.

The DiscMaster 4TD machines have a central function here. The deburring technology invented by LOEWER using round discs and the use of large rounding brushes impresses with its speed combined with optimum deburring and rounding quality and uniform tool wear. Everything from the smallest parts to large and long discs can be fed through the same system. A mobile transport carpet, which is electrically linked to the conveyor belt in the machine, which always runs at the same height, enables efficient parts processing – even with a large variety of parts.

An additional all-round machine is the SwingGrinder, which is characterised by its fast and flexible use for individual parts and small batches. This machine can be used to quickly remove slag, deburr and round off edges.

‘We had to become faster in the area of surface processing,’ says Tiemo Vorndran. With the LOEWER machines, the company expects significantly lower tool costs and more efficient part processing.
